Day 12: Writing Results

Moves in Results sections: Results sections are never mere presentation or reporting but always involve selecting and ordering the data in a way that is designed to guide the reader to the understandings that the researcher withes the reader to come to.

• draw the significance of the data
• highlight significant trends
• keep indicating where the reader is being led
• build up the 'argument'

PCM gloves activity: In this activity, there are few specific references to time. However, it would also have been possible to do so by including one or two like the following [which word(s) indicate time?]:

1. From the 10th to the 45th minute, hand temperature increased.
   
2. During the first ten minutes, hand temperature dropped.
   
3. Hand temperature fluctuated throughout the period.
4. Hand temperature remained over 35C from the 25th to the 50th minute for the PCM condition.
5. Hand temperature remained under 34C from the 25th to the 50th minute for the PCM condition.
   
6. The highest temperature occurred in the 45th minute for the PCM condition.
   
7. In the last ten minutes, hand temperature decreased for both conditions.
   
8. After 50 minutes had passed, hand temperature began to decrease.
9. At time 0, hand temperatures for both gloves was 33C.
