Week 6, Day 11

Day 11 Tasks:
Summarizing
Contract conferences

1. Summarizing: One of the most important things in starting a good summary is getting the first sentence right. Let's also review reporting verbs and integrate them into our first sentences. Finally, we'll extend our summary and add a critical element (Power Point).

2. Sign up for contract conference #2: There will be no class meeting Thursday, October 1 and Tuesday, October 5.

Please sign up for a time on google docs. At your conference, be prepared to discuss the following items: your level of success on contract one, your paper, contract two. Please submit your essay a minimum of 48 hours before your conference time so that I can give you feedback. If it's a thesis or dissertation, include the table of contents. (Appointments for Thursday, October 1 may submit their essays by Wednesday at noon).

Be sure to have your completed contract #2. Please submit it at least 1 hour prior to your conference. Think carefully about the semester goals that you set: Were they too big? Do you need to revise them? Why? Think about what you have accomplished so far and where you want to be at the end of the semester. Then select your second contract assignment.

HOMEWORK: Select something to summarize and critique: an article which relates to your research, a movie you watched recently, a book you read.... Write a summary in your online journal. Be sure to pay close attention to coherence (KNO) and the first sentence content. Then, evaluate your topic through critique. (Due Monday morning.)

We will learn more about critiques and discussions when we reconvene next Thursday.
